Another Needs Other Brother - Part 2

The Book of Hebrews that will help motivates us to enhance our commitment to the local church we belong - turn to Hebrews 10:23-25:

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

There are four main points that follow the four uses of “Let us” in verses 23-25 in the book of Hebrews, which shows how important it is to put into action what we know to be true. These commands are directed to each of us, and that they are impossible to keep unless we are in community with other believers.

1. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess (v:23).

Believers back then, as well as believers today, face so many distractions and problems. The word “unswervingly” means to “get fast hold of something.”
And we’re given an incentive in the last part of this verse: “For He who promised is faithful.” Because God is faithful to us, we also can be faithful to Him.
God never breaks His promises. He never over-promises and he never under-delivers. Let us learn to apply God’ great promises to our lives.

2. Let us consider how we may spur one another on (v:24).

The word “consider” means to “think about with affection and attentiveness.” This is quite challenging, because most of us by default focus on what we can get, not on what we can give to others. The idea here is to determine how best to minister to them.

The word “spur” is translated as “provoke” in the King James and is used in two ways. One is more negative: “to incite or irritate.” The other is more positive: To rouse one to action; to excite.” We are to create a convulsion or action in others toward “love and good deeds.”

We’re to personally hold fast to hope and we’re to excite others to action. That’s a good reminder for us believers. Hold on to Jesus and then look for ways to challenge our brethren to love more and serve more. Proverbs 27:17: “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”

Some on said, “The church is not like a store. It’s not like you go, get what you came for, and then head home again. The church isn’t just about you getting what you need. It’s about you participating in what everyone needs. It is a community of believers all working together, so that the church can be all God wants it to be.”

3. Let us not give up meeting together (v:25a).

That reminds me of a church signage with these letters: CH__CH. Underneath was this question: “What’s missing?” The answer: UR.
In the NT, it says, Jesus saw the value of attending synagogue every Sabbath, then shouldn’t we be meeting with fellow believers every week?
Luke 4:16: “And on the Sabbath, Jesus went into the synagogue, as was His custom.”

We’re created for community but, here’s the weird truth about us people. While we long for community, we also run from it. It has been said that when humankind fell from grace, we inherited not only a tendency to hide from God (like Adam and Eve), but a tendency to hide from one another as well. We sometimes desire to be close to one another, and at times, we want to hold others at arm’s length.

Understand that there are really only two options available to us in relationships. We can embrace people, do life with them, and open our heart to them. Or, we can exclude others and grow cold and distant as we shut people out of our life.

Brethren are we doing life with others by embracing them – or are you intentionally, or unintentionally excluding people? If we want to be a caring church or community, we need embracers, not excluders.

The next phrase in the verse: “As some are in the habit of doing.” It’s easy to get out of the habit of church participation. Too many of us plug-in and then we back-off. Non participation can become habit-forming.

A churchgoer wrote a letter to the editor of a church newsletter and complained that it made no sense to go to church every week-ends. “I’ve gone for 20 years now,” he wrote, “and in that time I have heard something like 2,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can’t remember a single one of them. So, I think I’m wasting my time, and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all.”

Another Needs Other Brother - Part 1

Scripture Reference: Hebrews 10:23-25

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

There are things that make me feel really sad or unhappy most about weekly worship services and fellowships. You would think it would be just the opposite because I look forward to worshipping with God’s people, having the opportunity to dig into God’s Word each week and feeding it to hungry people in the church. But I’m sad about what people miss when they’re not here.

Another reason is that when people aren’t here, we miss out on their contribution to the body of Christ.

Romans 12:5: “So in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” Each person has something to contribute to others, and when they’re absent; their words of encouragement and exhortation are absent as well. In a real sense we miss out what we can receive and what we can give or contribute to the Body of Christ, when others miss church because we belong to one another.

And, there’s a third reason for being unhappy – and this concerns the family. I’m sad when brethren choose other activities over church attendance because of the message this sends to others.

I’m not trying to be negative or to make you feel guilty because sometimes anyone of us/you miss a service or two. I understand that there are some legitimate reasons why people are unable to attend. I understand all these, but there seems to be a growing disposition in our culture against church.

Here’s the bottom-line today: Fruitful believers develop the habit of church involvement.

That reminds me of a mother and son story that took place one Sunday morning when a mother tried to wake her son up for church. The son replied, “I’m not going.” “Why not?” she asked. “I’ll give you two good reasons,” he said. “One, they don’t like me, and two, I don’t like them.” To which she replied, “I’ll give you two good reasons why you should go to church. One, you’re not getting any younger, you’re old enough, and two, you’re their pastor!”

Here are some reasons why some Christians don’t come to church:

• Bad experiences at church          • Church is boring
• Conflict with another Christian     • Personal pain
• Sickness                                  • Sports
• Busyness                                 • Laziness
• Work                                       • Transportation issues
• “That’s my only day to sleep in.” Here’s what I say to that. Come to the service and join others who catch up on their sleep during the sermon.
• “I don’t like the pastor’s personality.” Me either.
• “I don’t like the pastor’s preaching.” Join the club.
• “I’m just out of the habit.”

I think this last one is very common. From my experience, most people who don’t come to church on a regular basis have not necessarily made a decision to not come; it’s just that they get out of the habit and commitment of coming. They miss one week and then, the thought of coming back brings feelings of embarrassment because people will ask where they’ve been.

The Book of Hebrews that will help motivates us to enhance our commitment to the local church we belong - turn to

Hebrews 10:23-25:
“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Part 2 will follow very soon.. giving the meaning of LET US in our text.

Competing For Soul Winning

WHY IS MAN AND WOMEN OF GOD COMPETING ON WHO CAN HAVE THE BIGGEST CONGREGATION OR WHO IS THE MOST KNOWN. ITS LIKE THE BATTLE OF (CHURCHES) WHEN I THOUGHT WE ARE SUPPOSED TO UNIFY, JOIN, BE OF ONE BODY. ITS SO CRAZY HOW EVERYONE IS SEEKING THE 10000 SEATED CHURCH AND CANT DEAL WITH THE 10 SHEEP GOD HAS GIVEN THEM!!!!!!!!. PEOPLE GOD DON'T NEED HELP BEING A GOD, THE GOD ,THE ONE AN ONLY GOD! ITS NOT ABOUT YOUR NAME BUT THE NAME OF OUR GOD INSTEAD. ITS GOOD TO BE WELL KNOWN BUT GIVE GOD THE GLORY. I THANK GOD FOR THE FEW THAT FOLLOW ME, I THANK GOD FOR THE ANOINTING UPON MY LIFE, PEOPLE STOP WANTING TO ALWAYS BE ON TOP  THE SINNERS ARE IN THE LOW PLACES (USE ME LORD FOR YOUR GLORY)

When people forget why they are called and what is the purpose of their calling... I am happy for ten that I can teach them the biblical principle rather than 1k but they are not receptive of biblical
truths.... BUT IF GOD GRANT ME 1K THE SAME I WILL WORK FAITHFULLY FOR THE GLORY OF GOD.... I am motivated on how many I have discipled for Christ.... I am quality oriented not quantity... unlike the most people group today....

May be we are normally seeing hapenning such situation. Do you believe on me that God is involve on this? Why? Because, God is tryng to show something that related and included in His purpose.. I just remeber in Philippians 1:18 which Paul not really concern to those people preaching the word without anointing instead Paul trust the word itself they are preaching.

Rather than slowing the spread of the gospel. Paul's inprisonment has given him new opportunities for witnessing, particular among the elite of the Roman army. His experience has also stimulated others to preach more boldly, even though some had the wrong motive. Paul has no scathing remark for these people because their doctrine is correct. His reaction is vastly different to the doctrinal agitators addressed in Philippians chapter 3. ( Philippians 1:12-18 )

How about you guys and brothers? What are your views about his matter?
